Twitch Emote Guidelines

  • Emotes must be in PNG format with a transparent background.
  • Make sure to crop tightly around your emote content to avoid empty spacing in chat.
  • Twitch requires three sizes for manual upload: 28x28, 56x56, and 112x112 pixels.
  • Alternatively, Twitch accepts a single image from 112x112 up to 4096x4096px under 1MB for Auto-Resize.

Twitch emotes are small custom images that viewers use in chat to express emotions, reactions, jokes, or support for their favorite streamers. Since emotes appear at a very small size, they should have a clean and simple design that’s easy to recognize.

Avoid adding too much text or tiny details, as they become unreadable when displayed in Twitch chat.

Official Twitch Emote Sizes

To upload an emote manually, Twitch requires three separate image sizes.

Emote SizeDimensions
Large112 × 112 pixels
Medium56 × 56 pixels
Small28 × 28 pixels

Twitch Emote Content Guidelines

Before submitting your emotes, make sure they follow Twitch’s Community Guidelines.

Avoid creating emotes that include:

  • Copyrighted characters or logos
  • Hate speech or offensive symbols
  • Sexual or explicit content
  • Nudity (including cartoon nudity)
  • Graphic violence
  • Illegal content
  • Modified versions of existing Twitch global emotes (unless specifically permitted)

Even after approval, Twitch may remove emotes that are later found to violate its policies.
